In 2002 to fill my evenings, I thought I would start my tree. My Dad has always wondered why his grandfather, who came from Saffron Walden in Essex ended up in Liverpool married to a Welsh girl. Why did my grandmother have a different maiden name to her mother? I was soon hooked!
I researched the following names of my great grandparents. Yes, only 7 names as there was no father named on my grandmother's birth certificate.
- Gatward
- Warbrick
- Williams
- Roe
- Benson
- Trafford
- Beesley
The Bensons and Traffords were traced back in Lancashire, mainly in two areas - Ormskirk and Croston. The Beesleys were from North of Preston, Lancashire. This side of the family never moved far.
Gatwards - traced back to the 1500's, to the area where the three counties of Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire meet.
Warbricks - Liverpool back to Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire
Williams - from North Wales
Roe - back to Lowestoft where I found one of my ancestors to be one of the founding members of Lowestoft Porcelain.
If you have these names from these areas, please contact me to see if we have a match.
